Interior yacht design represents a field that, in the twenty-first century, has played a pivotal role in the profound transformation of nautical design. Since 2014, this evolution has been investigated through a scientific approach within the MaRe Design research group of the Department of Architecture and Design (dAD) at the University of Genoa, through PhD dissertations, Master’s theses, academic courses and laboratories, as well as seminars, workshops, conferences, and events.
Among the topics explored are: the layout configuration, the development of all interior spaces, ergonomics, the relationship between interior and exterior areas, comfort, décor, and the design of outdoor spaces.
The scope of the research encompasses all types of pleasure craft, both motor and sailing vessels, monohulls and multihulls, ranging from small boats to superyachts, and extending to ferries and cruise ships.
