In recent years, the nautical sector has identified a new field of research and development in the restoration and recovery of vessels. Within this domain, numerous aspects can be examined, leading to multiple lines of inquiry that the University of Genoa - Department of Architecture and Design (dAD) - has defined. As a result, even within academia, research and design focused on the creation of the new are now accompanied by research and design concerning the existing.
The broad discipline of naval and yacht design thus devotes part of its attention to the recovery of vessels, responding to newly emerging needs and anticipating future developments stemming from this evolving field.
At the dAD, a research line specifically dedicated to historic boating was established in 2012. Over the years, this research has evolved through concrete projects as well as doctoral theses, master’s dissertations, university courses and workshops, conferences, and various academic events.
